Lamma Island, Hong Kong
November 27, 2010
Penny and I set out to explore and get get acquainted with Lamma Island so we could be tour guides for her mom and co. when they visit Hong Kong at the end of December. We ended up not "getting much done", but discovered a nice little world outside all the tourist attractions... The main roads were lined with European-esque cafes, hand-made jewelry shops, and organic grocery stores. It was really nice to escape from the clamor and bustle of the city and have some true relaxation. There were so many foreigners, but surprisingly, most of the tourists to the island were Chinese, not westerners. The waiters and waitresses at the greet their western customers as if they are frequent coffee-goers in the neighborhood. Turns out, many of the inhabitants are foreigners (expats?). I envied the kids running around on the beaches and down the cliffs to the waters (carelessly pass the "do not enter" signs). They obviously ruled the island ;) But we enjoyed our weekend getaway on the island for ourselves. Lounging at Lala Mama's for brunch, browsing the boutiques, trying the snacks, people-watching, sitting at the beach, and having tea-time at Herboland (one of my favorite places ever).
